Undone

The following poem was inspired by the story of Jesus’ reaction to the woman caught in adultery, written from her perspective.

In the midst of the crowd

Lost and alone

The object of loathing

Covered with shame

Exposed and embarrassed

All hope has gone

Dark fear encircles

Enveloping doom

A life that is wasted

Virtue undone

Silence unbearable

Death soon to come

A crowd that is melting

Where have they gone?

The teacher remaining

Eyes like the sun

Her hopelessness fading

Compassion from one

Forgiving her weakness

Extending his arm

A future returning

New life to come

With light at the centre

All despair gone

The stranger has gifted

Transformative love
